I Mayhem Mavericks (Street Symphonies Records / Burning Minds Music Group), in arte Marcello Spera (StreetLore) voce e Andrew Trabelsi (Shining Line, StreetLore, Füel For Tunes, ex-Mastro) chitarre e tastiere, nascono dalla polvere di detonazione degli Alchemy, band bresciana scioltasi a causa di divergenze artistiche, in perpetuam memoriam coniugum “Never Too Late” (2016) e “Dyadic” (2019).
Il moniker “Maverick” sembra uscito direttamente da un film di Top Gun, in effetti i primi singoli estratti anticipano un album adrenalinico dal gusto cinematografico: una grande produzione hollywoodiana di ottantiana memoria, pensata come la colonna sonora di una storia d’amore travolgente, vissuta in bilico tra slanci epici e cadute emotive, fragilità esposte e bisogno urgente di ricominciare a vivere dopo una fine dolorosa.
In prima battuta “Killing Eyes” incarna lo spirito di una generazione sospesa tra eccessi e sogni infranti. La sirena della polizia in sottofondo apre il brano, tra synth e chitarre virtuose (Cristiano Stefana), mentre l’incipit “it’s the same ol’ situation…” richiama volutamente un cliché alla Mötley Crüe: un gioco pericoloso fatto di seduzione, illusioni e belle donne dagli occhi letali.
“I Can Feel the Heartache” racconta invece un momento intimo, affrontato a pugni chiusi e denti stretti. La voce in primo piano dialoga con una seconda voce sovrapposta, come un monologo interiore che prende forma. Il finale esplode in power chords e una ritmica sincopata che richiama apertamente “Eye of the Tiger“, impossibile non canticchiare mentalmente quel “ta-ta taa” e sentirsi, per un attimo, come Rocky Balboa mentre infila i guantoni da boxe. “More To Ask”, ultimo dei tre, è uno slow rock dal sapore di ballad alla Poison, con il pianoforte che accompagna una confessione quasi sussurrata e disarmante.
Pur citando melodie già conosciute cit. “Best of Me” che riparte di colpo come un motociclo che si accende, motore che gira su un riff alticcio e sfrontato, Mayhem Mavericks suona moderno e compatto, offrendo quel dialogo sinergico tra batteria e chitarre che in “Eclipse” proietta in un mondo digitale dall’estetica newvawe di un’ eclissi pixelata, mentre in “Midnight Crawler” funge da crescendo dinamico continuo con la batteria che “pesta” senza tregua, mentre le chitarre si muovono incessantemente, intessendo linee melodiche secondarie come ricamini nervosi che si intrecciano sulla base armonica principale. Prezioso anche il contributo dei cinque bassisti ospiti: Vanessa Odry, Angelo Sasso (StreetLore, Airbound), Stefania Sarre (Soul Seller, Shining Line), Mauro Balestra e Matteo Castelli (ex Alchemy) che aggiungono un’impronta distintiva alla ritmica di ogni pezzo.
Non mancano inoltre i sempiterni ritornelli orecchiabili cit. “Divide” e “Road With No End” che sicuramente allieteranno i seguaci più accaniti di questo genere musicale. Ideale per chi cerca le emozioni di sempre, sperimentando prospettive sonore ancora in grado di sorprendere ed ispirare.

[EN] Mayhem Mavericks (Street Symphonies Records / Burning Minds Music Group), aka Marcello Spera (StreetLore) on vocals and Andrew Trabelsi (Shining Line, StreetLore, Füel For Tunes, ex-Mastro) on guitars and keyboards, were born from the ashes of Alchemy, a band from Brescia that broke up due to artistic differences, in perpetuam memoriam coniugum “Never Too Late” (2016) and “Dyadic” (2019).
The moniker “Maverick” seems to come straight out of a Top Gun movie, and indeed the first singles anticipate an adrenaline-fueled album with a cinematic feel: a big Hollywood production reminiscent of the 1980s, conceived as the soundtrack to a sweeping love story, lived between epic highs and emotional lows, exposed fragility and an urgent need to start living again after a painful end.
“Killing Eyes” embodies the spirit of a generation suspended between excesses and broken dreams. The police siren in the background opens the song, accompanied by synths and virtuoso guitars (Cristiano Stefana), while the opening line “it’s the same ol’ situation…” deliberately recalls a Mötley Crüe cliché: a dangerous game of seduction, illusions, and beautiful women with deadly eyes.
“I Can Feel the Heartache” recounts an intimate moment, faced with clenched fists and gritted teeth. The foreground vocals dialogue with a second overlapping voice, like an inner monologue taking shape. The finale explodes into power chords and a syncopated rhythm that recalls “Eye of the Tiger”—it’s impossible not to hum that “ta-ta taa” mentally and feel, for a moment, like Rocky Balboa putting on his boxing gloves. “More To Ask,” the last of the three, is a slow rock song with a Poison-style ballad feel, with the piano accompanying an almost whispered and disarming confession. While referencing familiar melodies, such as “Best of Me,” starting like a motorcycle revving up, its engine running on a tipsy and bold riff, Mayhem Mavericks sounds modern and compact, offering that synergistic dialogue between drums and guitars that in “Eclipse” projects into a digital world with the new wave aesthetic of a pixelated eclipse, while in “Midnight Crawler” it acts as a continuous dynamic crescendo with the drums “pounding” relentlessly, while the guitars move incessantly, weaving secondary melodic lines like nervous embroidery intertwined with the main harmonic base. Contribution of five guest bassists is also invaluable: Vanessa Odry, Angelo Sasso (StreetLore, Airbound), Stefania Sarre (Soul Seller, Shining Line), Mauro Balestra, and Matteo Castelli (formerly of Alchemy) add a distinctive touch to the rhythm of each song. There is also no shortage of timeless, catchy choruses, such as “Divide” and “Road With No End,” are sure to delight the most avid followers of this musical genre. Ideal for those seeking the same emotions as always, while experimenting with sound perspectives that are still capable of surprising and inspiring.
